We are not short of choices when it comes to vision correction solutions. From the wide range of spectacles options to the broad variety of contact lenses (disposable lenses, Gas Permeable (GP) lenses, specialty lenses to overnight lenses), we are indeed spoiled for choice.

Nowadays, these contact lenses are affordable and accessible, and they come in many different brands, materials and lens specifications. Most are catered for near (myopic) or far sighted (hyperopic) vision needs. But there are also toric contact lenses which address Astigmatism, a common condition where the patient experiences blurred or distorted vision at all distances, as well as the multifocal contact lenses for presbyopia, commonly known as “Lao Hua” in Singapore. And let’s not forget, the extended wear contact lenses which can be worn continuously for up to six nights and seven days.

We wish to highlight that it is important for you to consult an optometrist/eye care professional for contact lens fitting. In Singapore, the Optometrists and Opticians Board (OOB) under the Ministry of Health requires all contact lenses (powered or non-powered) to be prescribed and dispensed by registered optometrists or contact lens practitioners. Contact lenses with refractive power, which are classified as medical devices, must be registered with HSA.
