Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is not new in Singapore and other parts of the world. In fact, it has been around for decades. It involves the fitting of specially designed and highly “breathable” contact lenses to gently and gradually reshape the surface of your eyes while you sleep. The cornea is naturally elastic.
Ortho-K lenses are designed to gently shape the cornea, causing it to gradually “mimic” the shape of the lens and effectively correcting curvature problems on a temporary basis.
The cornea experiences a significant degree of adaptation within hours to days, and it often requires 2 – 3 weeks for full adaptation, depending on the individual. However, the corrective effect may last for more than a day once adapted.
